Thermally modified
is the reason!

Real wood that's waterproof?

Most people think real hardwood and waterproof don’t belong in the same sentence.
That’s only because nobody in the U.S. has ever actually offered it.

But waterproof wood isn’t new. It goes back over a thousand years.

The Vikings figured it out first. They charred their wood so their boats would shed water and survive the ocean.
Archaeologists are still pulling some of those boats out of rivers in Europe today.

We took that same idea and pushed it into the 21st century

This isn’t a new idea.

Europe’s been using thermally modified wood for decades.

The process

We took that ancient wisdom and gave it a modern twist.
Today, we use oxygen-free kilns, heat the wood to around 400°F, and cool it with steam.
Basically, it’s a four-day sauna treatment for the wood.
This process cooks out sugars (bugs hate that), collapses the cell walls, and locks out moisture from
the inside out.
